Philmont Country Club (North) hosted the GOLFWEEK
Amateur Tour (Philly Metro) for our 2nd tournament of the season on Saturday
May 27, 2017. Sixty players in five
flights competed on an overcast afternoon on the challenging course. The 6,670 yard Par 70 North Course,
designed by William S. Flynn and Willie Park, and opened in 1906, features numerous
water hazards, fast sloping greens, and tight tree-lined fairways. The course
is currently under renovation to restore it to the original Flynn design.
In the Championship Flight, Alex Hargaden
(74, 39-35) shot the low round of the day to claim the title. Alex had 3 birdies during his under-par
back-nine. New member John Foley (76,
37-39) was two-strokes back in 2nd place. Dave DiValentino (80,
39-41) took 3rd place. CHAMP
Flight played the BLUE tees at 6,573 yards.
The A
Flight went to a 3-man playoff, with Mark Monkhouse (84, 44-40) emerging
victorious with a Par 4 on the 1st hole. The playoff also included George Steinmetz (84,
44-40) and Josh Numbers (84, 40-44). Steinmetz took 2nd place on a
match-of-cards and Numbers took 3rd place. A Flight played a BLUE/WHITE combo tee set at 6,473
yards.
In the B Flight, Brian Lynch broke
through with a fine round of 82 (40-42) to claim the title by one-stroke over
Ron Pace (83, 42-41). Mark Butterfoss
(86, 44-42) took 3rd place. B
Flight played from the WHITE tees at 6,207 yards.
The C
Flight champion was new member Lynn Bigelow (88, 42-46), who was four-strokes
better than Robert Stillman (92, 48-44). Dave Neder (93, 48-45) was another stroke back
in 3rd place. C Flight played from a WHITE/GOLD combo tee set
at 6,034 yards.
In the D Flight, John Stevens (93, 45-48) shook-off a two-stroke penalty during
competition to win the title. Sean Matthews (95, 45-50) was two-strokes back in
2nd place. Fred Hering (97,

set at 6,034 yards.
