Entering its 15 season local golfers will again have a tour to call their own as the popular egolf Amateur Tour returns with an impressive schedule for 2009. The national tours first event will be January 11th at the Robert Trent Jones course in Hilton Head, SC.
The egolf Amateur Tour is for amateurs of all ages and abilities. Members are placed in one of five flights based on handicaps. Flights are: Championship (0-5 handicap), A Flight (6-10), B Flight (11-15), C Flight (16-21) and D Flight (22 +).
Tournament format is gross stroke play, with USGA rules in effect. A software program tracks each player’s handicap to ensure participants are placed in their proper flight.
“The tour provides everyday golfers a chance to compete like the pros,†said McCormac. “You don’t have to be a scratch golfer to join the egolf Amateur Tour; it is the tour for the rest of usâ€.
At each event, the top three golfers in every flight win gift certificates from local retailers, while all participants earn points toward a season-long championship in their flight. The 2008 egolf Amateur Tour hosted over 570 tournaments for its members, with the average tour conducting 16 events each.
Golfers may join the tour at any time for a yearly membership fee. That fee includes a gift bag and tour packet, and allows members to play in their local tournament schedule, as well as other egolf AGT events around the country.
Entry fees for the egolf Amateur Tour tournaments range from $60-$95. Those fees include cart and green fees, range balls and prizes, plus closest-to-the-pin and long drive awards. Results and points standings are posted within 48 hours at: www.amateurgolftour.net.
Golfers who finish in the top 10 in points in their flight receive invitations to the 2009 egolf Amateur Tour Championship, Oct. 24-25 at Palmetto Dunes Resort & Port Royal Plantation in Hilton Head, S.C. The 2008 Tour Championship hosted 550 players from around the country, making it the largest amateur event ever held on Hilton Head Island.
