I want to thank everyone who played in this event, it really went well and we didn’t have any problems. The pace of play Sunday was great, Saturday was a little slow, but overall better than last year. I think the staff of both clubs did a good job in handling the event, and other than the greens at St James both are great layouts. And considering the history of the St James and their great conditions I believe them saying our severe winter caused them the problem on the green. But I look forward to getting this going for next year and hopefully we will get another flight or two. Also this year the competition for all the flights went down to match 5 on Sunday…. A recap of the flights: FLIGHT I Don Sheads was leading after 4 matches by 1pt over Jeff Gentes, but Jeff won Match 5 7.0 to 3.0 for Don and he was the flight winner. FLIGHT II Both Rick Lundy and Jeff Wassil, were tied after match 4….. And Jeff won match #5 by 6.5 pts to 3.5 pt for Lundy, and won. FLIGHT III Jack Sudol “Mr Deliberate” had a big lead after 4 matches and won going away. FLIGHT IV Another dead heat after 4 matches Kent Barker and Ron Payne were tied but in the last match Ron Payne won with 7pts and Barker had 3 …. And Payne was the winner. So for the Shoot –out we had Jeff Gentes, Jeff Wassil, Jack Sudol and Ron Payne and we were getting ready to go out when the horn sounded bringing all players in ….. We had a delay of about 2 hrs…. and finally the pro let us go out on the front side. 1st hole Everybody but Gentes got a stroke. Gentes and Sudol drives were right down the middle Wassil and Payne were in the left rough…… Gentes with no stroke hit his approach into the right hand bunker he got out to about 10 feet and made the put for a 4 ……. All the other players all got in with 5’s so low score was 4…… and for the first time ever we had everybody in the chip off. I had picked a spot above the pin which was about 40ft downhill….. Gentes went first and sunk his shot…… Wassil next went about 13” from hole, Payne next and he sinks his shot …… Sudol next and he lips his out to about 6” so Jeff is eliminated. 2nd hole Everbody gets strokes….. Gentes got in trouble, hitting 2 bad shots but got on the green in 4 and 2 putted for a 6 net 5. Sudol had a 4 and Payne had a 5 net 4, so Gentes was eliminated. 3rd hole par 3 both get strokes. Payne tee shot was on the green right side, Sudol was short and had to chip up he missed a 12 foot put for par and had a 4. Payne was able to make a 3 so Sudol was eliminated and PAYNE WAS THE WINNER.
