The Charleston and Columbia Tours held their joint
event on April 7 at Orangeburg Country Club. It was a difficult day due to the
weather but as usual the staff at Orangeburg demonstrated the professionalism
and experience in helping us complete as much as possible. The Championship and
A flights were able to complete their rounds while the B C and D flights were
reduced to a common 9, nine hole tournament.
Champ Flight- with only two players in the flight,
they both knew exactly were they stood and finishing in the rain, Mathew West
out dueled Jack Stone for the victory.
In the A flight, the lead bounced back and forth
all day and in the end Birmingham’s Bernie Dailey and Columbia’s Westfield Brown
that tied for first place with 7 over 79’s. The two decided to play it off on
the course and it was Bernie’s par that won the tournament on the first playoff
hole.
B Flight. Charleston’s Billy Gamblin took home
first place honors due in large part to his eagle 2 on the opening hole.
Columbia’s Bubba Atkinson and Augusta’s Wes Graves both finished tied for second
with Bubba taking home the second place money via a scorecard playoff.
C Flight. Charleston’s Glenn Eagerton finished in
first place with a nice round of 40 on the front. Augusta’s Jason McCary and
Charlestonian Vince Ackerman finish one and two shots back respectively.
D Flight Upstates Brent Westbrook took home the
first place honors via his 9 over 45. Columbia’s Mike Flannigan also finished
at 45 and since the course was unplayable we had to do a scorecard playoff with
Brent winning out. Rounding out the top three was Columbia’s Mike Bailey who
finished one shot back of Brent and Mike.
