(l to r) B Flight Winners - Jeff Ames, Jong-Ho Choy and Ronnie Raley
The egolf Amateur Tour of Nashville kicked off its 2009 campaign at Harpeth Hills this past Sunday. The weather was perfect for the full field of 67 competitors. In the Championship Flight, Tour rookie Tyler Stokes (77) bested Lance Strawn and Mark Jones by one stroke to earn his first tour victory in as many starts. In the A Flight, Tour Director Roger Sheaves claimed victory by posting an 84. Steve Schultz was one stroke back with an 85. 5 other golfers tied for 3rd, shooting 86. Defending B Flight Champion Ronnie Raley outlasted tour newcomer, Jong-Ho Choy in a 3-hole playoff. Both players finished the round and posted a score of 82. The playoff began on #1 with both players scoring a bogey. On the 2nd hole, Choy had a flair for the dramatic by clanging his birdie chip shot off the stick. Both players settled for par and moved on to the uphill par 3. After their tee shots, Choy was in the driver seat with his ball on the green and Raley in the bunker. Choy was unable to par the hole, while Raley got up and down for his par. In the C Flight, Tour newbie Bryan Webb (93) squeaked out a one-stroke victory over Andy Raley. Defending champion, Horace Spoon finished two strokes back in 3rd. In the D flight, tour veteran Ray Wiggins (94) cruised to a 4-stroke victory over Dianne Dickinson. We really appreciate all of those who made our season opener at Harpeth Hills a success! Our next tournament will be held on Saturday, April 18th at King’s Creek Golf Club in Spring Hill, TN with a shotgun start beginning at 1 p.m. Slots will fill up fast, so register early!
