2015 GOLFWEEK AMATEUR GOLF TOUR
SATURDAY, MARCH 28, 2015
BRYAN PARK (CHAMPIONS COURSE)
9:00 AM SHOTGUN
===============================================================

As Tour veterans know, Major Tournaments award double points to all players and offer an opportunity to those that wish to get to the National Tournament to move up in the all important year long point standings.
This is the 1st of 4 Majors scheduled in 2015 and remember, they usually sell-out so sign-up early if you want double points or an automatic berth to Nationals by winning your flight.
There’s not much to say about the venue this week – it is a great course to play.
The Champions Course opened in 1990 by the legendary Rees Jones. Therefore be warned, it can become a real skill challenge! It is a big time course that is always looked at and most times selected for competitive rounds to separate the real golfer from the pretenders.
Play this course and you will be able to match your card against many of the collegiate and future PGA stars as well as The US Amateurs.
This is an 18 hole championship layout featuring 97 sand traps, numerous grass bunkers, hollows and seven holes bordering Lake Townsend. Good luck this week!

Improve Your Golf Fitness To Play Better Golf During Your Round.

From: Stephen Ladd – Founder, Renegade Golf Fitness Institute
Are you serious about your golf game? I mean obsessed with crushing your drives, sticking your irons and draining putts? Not to mention becoming top dog in your foursome?
I thought so…
No doubt you’ve noticed the rise in popularity of fitness programs for the top players on all the Tours. Maybe you’ve started a fitness program in hopes of adding more power and distance, but aren’t getting the results you were hoping for . . or even worse, you end up injured and can’t play at all.
Trebuchet MS
There is one primary reason for this, and I’m going to tell you all about it. But first, let me introduce myself.
My name is Stephen Ladd, and my obsession is training golfers as athletes, and developing their bodies to better use their golf skills and play to their peak potential. I have been doing just that for over 16 years… long before the “golf fitness” craze began.
I have been trained and certified through the most prestigious golf fitness organizations in the world, including The Titleist Performance Institute and CHEK Institute.

FAYETTEVILLE'S KRICK WINS GOLFWEEK TOUR PLAYOFF
Seven Lakes, NC
March 21, 2015
Johnny Sears "monkeyed around" and lost a chance at victory in the Golfweek Amateur Golf Tour event at Seven Lakes Country Club to fellow Fayetteville resident Charles Krick.
After hitting into thick foliage called monkey or wire grass on the first hole of their C Flight sudden-death playoff, Sears was unable to appreciably advance his ball with 2 strokes, effectively giving the playoff to Krick who posted a modest birdie for the win.
Seven Lakes Winner: C Flight - Charles Krick
For Krick, a Tour rookie playing in only his second Tour start, it was his first win. Both players finished their regulation rounds with scores of 90.
Another Fayetteville Tour member, Larry Hardee in the Championship Flight, was one of 2 players who managed back-to-back Tour victories with a win today.
Seven Lakes Winner: Championship Flight - Larry Hardee
Also grabbing a win last Tour event at Bentwinds Country Club in Fuquay-Varina was Raleigh's Richard McMinis in the B Flight.
Seven Lakes Winner: B Flight - Richard McMinnis
Hardee posted a 79 for his win, while McMinis registered an 83.
The A Flight belonged to Raleigh's Matt Ellerman, who enjoyed the largest margin of victory of any flight with a 77 and a 3 stroke edge over Laurinburg's Robin Neverve.
Steven Bell took the top spot in D Flight action. As the only flight member to break 100 with a 99, Bell was 2 shots clear of both Shane Kilby of Clemmons and Mebane's Vince Thompson. It was a auspicious return to Tour action for Bell who had taken a 2 year hiatus from Tour play.
Seven Lakes Winner: D Flight - Steven Bell
The next stop for the Golfweek Tour is the 2015 season's first Major event next Saturday at Bryan Park - The Champions Course. That event is a 9:00 am shotgun start. There are openings available for that event. Any amateur golfer interested in competing can contact Tour Director Bruce Hallenbeck at behgolf@aol.com.

Rules Review
It has been suggested that there should be a series of Rules scenarios for you to solve. So begins a series of problems titled What's the Score?
Doc Miller has graciously agreed to allow me to share these with you that he has been sending since July 2009.
I will include one each week. You should try to determine the answer based upon your knowledge of the Rules when ever possible and then use your Rule book to confirm.
There will be no trick questions or hidden information.

Question from week #296
Slick’s drive hit a tree about 180 yards up the right side of the tree line and with a loud whack, disappeared from everyone’s view.
After the other players hit, Slick declared and hit a provisional ball somewhat along the same line. Arriving at the approximate location the players fanned out in the four directions of the compass.
Early into the search, Slick’s provisional ball was found snuggled up against a couple medium size trees. After a few minutes, Slick called off the search and declared he would play his provisional ball.
He decided he would need to declare this ball unplayable, so proceeded correctly when he lifted and dropped it within the required two club-lengths. Before playing this ball, and still within the required five minute search period a fellow competitor discovered Slick’s original ball partially hidden under a leaf.
What do you think he should do?
A. Slick must play his original ball and his next stroke will be his second.
B. Slick must play his provisional ball and his next stroke will be his fourth.
C. If Slick plays his provisional ball, his next stroke will be his seventh.
D. Slick may play his original ball, but now lies two, so his next stroke will be his third.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Answer A is the correct choice.
Slick’s original ball was still in play (see Definition: Lost Ball). Declaring his provisional ball unplayable does not change the status of that ball, nor the relationship it has to his original (See R27-2).
Within the allotted five minute time period, provided he does not make a stroke at his provisional ball from a place nearer the hole than where his original is likely to be, then his original ball remains as his ball in play despite the provisional being lifted and dropped.
His next stroke will be his second as penalties incurred solely by playing the provisional ball are to be disregarded.
What’s more, because his ball is on the teeing ground, Jon may also repair the damage made by his ball impact before dropping. (see Decision 13-2/2) It is important to point out that normally, Jon would be prohibited from first repairing the ball impact before dropping. This is an exception afforded under R13-2. Like I said, a unique situation that is best described as residing tucked in to a corner of the Rules envelope.
Jon’s ball is in play. He should simply take the relief drop and play on from there. Jon must not re-tee the ball as that would be interpreted by the Rules as electing to play under stroke and distance, thus making answer D correct.

===============================================================
Tour Weather Guidelines:
Primarily, we adhere to the same guidelines that the PGA Tour uses: If the course is open, we're going to play.
The only exception to this is that I'll never put any of you in harm's way during an event because of dangerous weather. (i.e. - lightening or severe cold and wetness).
In other words, I won't let the course "bully" us into playing where an unsafe condition might exist.
Because I arrive at every event at least two hours prior to the start time and I generally have to leave my house at least an hour before that to get to the course, there is no sense calling me just before the event, because I won't be at the office. The best avenue to take is to call the course if the weather seems threatening.
If you are on the roster for the event, and you do not get a cancellation notice from the course after calling them, you are expected to show up in time for the scheduled shotgun start.
