Two events in two days — what a start to the DC Metro Tour season! Players gathered at Bristow Manor Golf Club Sunday, just 20-something miles west of Saturday’s contest. The winter-like weather remained but so did the top-notch play from the participants. And it was TOP NOTCH as the tour had two back-to-back event winners, a playoff in another flight, and close play across the board.

Lance Keiser was the Championship Flight winner Saturday, and you know what? He won the darn thing Sunday, too! Holding a one-stroke lead over Tony Bostic with nine holes left, Keiser birdied 12 and 14, and pared the remaining to edge Bostic 77-78. Bostic made an Eagle on hole No. 16. Ryan Scott, of the Eastern NC Tour, placed third with an 82.

Fred Ayubi posted scores of 80 over the weekend, but the difference Sunday was the outcome. On Saturday, Ayubi shared second with two others. A day later, that 80 gave him the A Flight victory. Nathan Poerstel carded an 82, good for second, while Mike Cuff placed third (84). Cuff made three birdies on his round.

Wow — for a second-straight day, Chuck Rosenfield was the B Flight winner! Rosenfeld won the round on the 18th hole, edging Steve Ogletree 85-86. Rosenfeld trailed Ogletree by one stroke heading into the back nine. He gained an advantage on the 11th and extended it to three strokes before Ogletree won three of the next four holes to knot the score up, where it remained until the final hole. Louis Lafayette shot an 88, placing third.

Christopher Thorp had a stellar round Sunday, shooting an 81 and taking the top spot in the C Flight. Thorp turned it up on the back, carding a 39 which separated him from his competition. Hayden Gafford placed second with an 88 while Titus Simmons edged out Rafiq Rashid for third, 90-91. Alvin Dixon rounded out the top-5 with a 94.

You really can’t make this stuff up. The DC Metro Tour wrapped up with a — wait for it — FOUR-person playoff to determine the winner of the D Flight. Nick Taylor, Donald Cherry, Blake Spangler, and Willie Gray all shot a 97 on their round. When it was all said and done, Taylor was the victor. The battle for fifth was right there, though, as Ayman Mottaleb and Carl Oquendo tied for that spot with an 18-hole card of 98.
