Champ flight winner – Luke Bohm
Luke Bohm, a member from the Chicago tour, famously known in the Golfweek community for his points champion tattoo came down to the St. Louis chapter to test his skills on the links style course at Aberdeen. After a couple of bogeys to start, Luke started to find his swing. That’s when he started filling it up with four pars down the stretch on the frontside to take a 42 and a three-stroke lead at the turn. Moving to the back it was a battle down to the wire. Playing from 7000 yards in the wind sets up a tough day for our champ players. Luke came down the stretch sprinkling in 3 more pars to come in the club house with an 87 and hold off Cory Gregersen to win his second tournament on the STL tour in his second visit. Way to go Luke. Thanks for making the trip down. Always good to see you buddy.
A flight winner – Justin Robinson
First year member on the tour, Justin Robinson came out and put on a tutorial on the golf course Sunday. On the front he made four pars, also adding an incredible three birdies to come into the club house with a 33. Also first year member Jason Hartrich wasn’t far behind, he too played some incredible golf. Making a bunch of a pars and adding in a birdie to make the turn at 37, four strokes off the lead. On the back Jason started par, par, birdie, to put him right back in the chase to catch Justin Robinson. Hartrich ended his round with a 74, which just wasn’t enough to catch Robinson down the stretch who added three more birdies on the back to shoot a spectacular 69 in his first event on tour. Congratulations on getting that first Dub Justin, and great battle from you as well Jason. With your guys’ great scores you both have been promoted to the Champ Flight. Look forward to watching you guys battle it out this year.
B flight winner – Norm Toon
Sunday was an epic day for Norm Toon on the course. After a tough first hole his game really turned on making three pars on the front and adding a huge birdie on the par 5 sixth. Norm rode into the turn sitting at 42 tied for the lead with Zach Brda. Zach was in his bag today as well shooting some good golf. Brda got hot on the front draining four pars in a row to also make the turn at 42. Today was Norms Day though. Down the stretch Norm made four pars and added the cherry on top with a clutch birdie on the long 17 to shoot 42 on the back as well. Giving him a total of 84 to hold off Zach Brda by two strokes. Great battle out there today guys and big congratulations to you Norm. Awesome to see you go out and grab that win Sunday. Nice work.
C flight winner – Justin Finley
What a day we had in the C flight. Holy smokes what an ending, we had second year player Adam Horton come out hotter than grandma’s biscuits. Adam made the turn with a 42 and a three stroke lead. Chasing him was first year member Sean Bensinger, and second year members Alan Oberholtzer and Justin Finley. Alan and Sean both made the turn at 45, and Justin made it at 47. Onto the back Justin, Sean, and Alan put the pedal to the floor and had a great battle down the stretch. Ultimately when it was all said and done Alan came in at 88, which was good for third place. Great round Alan, the swing was looking great today. We did have a tie for firsts between Justin and Sean with 87’s. That meant we needed to go do a playoff. This was the most epic playoff I have ever seen, they battled for 6 holes. One player would hit a great shot then the other player would, and this continued back and forth. In the end when it was all said and done as the sunlight was fading, Justin Finley holds off Sean Bensinger to win his second tournament on Golfweek Amateur Tour St. Louis. Great effort out there Sean, you are going to be on the top of that C flight leaderboard all year. That was an awesome battle.
Fun Fact, Justin’s brother Roddy won on a playoff hole last year at Aberdeen. For both of you guys to win with your brother with you is a memory that will never be forgotten. What a game. Congratulations Justin, what a way to end an awesome playoff.
D Flight winner – Sudhakar Injamuri
Sudhakar, a first-year member, made a great effort in his first event and it must have made him hungry because he came out ready to battle. The winner from last week Charlie Bieser stood in his way. Charlie was trying to go back-to-back after winning the opener at the (Frozen) Falls GC. On the front Charlie came out and set the tone, making a huge birdie on the first par three. Charlie finished the front with a 42 and a two stroke lead. Sudhakar stayed hanging around though and didn’t let Bieser out of his sights. Sudhakar finished his front nine with a 44, two strokes back. Onto the back, Bieser parred the first three holes, but heading towards the finish line things got a little off track. Charlie finished with a 48 on the back for a total of 90. Sudhakar played steady and solid on the back and stuck to his game and brought home the winner. Sudhakar’s 45 on the back put him in the clubhouse with an 89 to edge Bieser by one stroke to win his first tournament on the Golf Week Amateur Tour. Great job battling down the stretch Sudhakar. Welcome to the winner’s circle. Great Job.
