First off, I wanted to thank everyone who came
out for the second tournament of the year at The Falls Golf Club. The weather
was beautiful, and players took advantage and were scoring well.
Champion Flight Winner - Chris Pestka
Second year player, Chris Pestka, came in
fresh off the airplane and went straight to the course looking for a battle in
the champ flight. Chris carded seven
pars and a birdie on the front side to shoot a 36 and take a three-stroke lead
to the back. On the back side, Chris had three birdies coming down the stretch,
shooting a -1, 70 to win his 4th career tournament on the tour. New
young gunner, Blake Heimburger, poured in four birdies on the day and shot a
solid 73. Great job today, Chris, shooting under par is some seriously good
golf. You are the man.
A Flight Winner – Steve Mccauley
Steve Mccauley had himself a day today. On the
front side, Steve had six pars and one birdie on the 9th to give him
a dominating five-stroke lead at the turn. He started the back paring the first
seven holes and finished the par five 18th with a par as well. With
a monster 10 stroke lead, he secured his second win in a row to start his season
and career victory four on the tour. New player to the tour, Tom Estopare, made
his tour debut shooting a solid 84, finishing 2nd in the A flight. Way
to smash the competition today, Steve. Heck of a victory and congrats on the
winning the free raffle that included the cart cooler and box of Bridgestones.
B Flight Winner – JC Coleman
JC Coleman won this tournament last year and was out to
repeat. JC had three pars on the front side and had two birdies to take a two-stroke
lead onto the back. JC then heated up on the back paring seven of his next nine
holes to shoot an awesome 77 and edge out Phil Sherer by three strokes. Phil
came out looking to win his 4th tournament in a row, dating back to
last season but just came up short, shooting a solid 80. Also, wanted to say a
congrats to JC Coleman on getting promoted to the A flight. How cool is that
that you and Sam Burns went back-to-back on the same day.
C Flight Winner – Rei Nakamura
Rei Nakamura, playing in his first ever Golfweek event,
came out blazing until he ran into a triple on six, and finished with a 46 on
the front, two strokes off the lead. On the back side, Rei got down to
business, carding two birdies to shoot an exceptional 40 on the back with a total
of 86 to edge Scott Nishimura by three strokes, winning his first tournament.
Scott Nishimura had a birdie and an eagle today and got hot on the back side,
shooting a 40 also but was too little, too late. Scott had a solid round, finishing
with an 89. Congrats, Rei on winning the first tournament you’ve ever participated
in with Golfweek. Heck of a start!
D Flight Winner – Greg Cobourn
We had a good one in the D flight today. Greg Cobourn came
out and set the tone, shooting a solid 45 on the front to take a four-stroke
lead. On the back side, it got interesting coming down the stretch with Les
Mays on his tail. Greg finished it off by going par, bogey, par, shooting a 92
to win his 14th career amateur event. Les Mays coming out of a 14-year
drought from golf, came out and finished just three strokes off the lead. Great
effort, Les. Glad to see you back out here again. Congratulations to Greg on locking
down the win.
