Just
wanted to give a big shoutout to everyone who came out and played the season
opener at Forest Park, it was a beautiful day.
Winning
Championship Flight - Rodney Ramsay
Rodney
was just steady eddy on the front, carding 8 pars and just one bogey on the par
3 third on Redbud. Rolling onto the back nine, he started off with a bogey and
then ran a streak of three pars in a row on the back. Next was the par 3 fifth
hole on Dogwood he made double and started a little bogey streak but ended his
round with a Par shooting 77, +7. Nice round Rodney!!!
First
Place A Flight - Steve Mccauley
Second
Place A Flight - Todd Wilson
We
had us a good one in the A flight today. Steve Mccauley who is fresh up from
the B flight, carded three pars and nothing worse then a bogey shooting a 41 on
the front. One of our new members, Todd Wilson, in his first ever Golfweek
Amateur Tour event, had 4 pars on the front and also didn't have anything worse
then bogey shooting a 38 to take a 3 stroke lead. Todd started the back with a
triple bogey and that let Steve get right back in it. From there Todd Played
some solid golf down the stretch making 5 pars in a row finishing with a total
of 80, +10. Steve then went on to par 12,13,14,15,16, and then stuck it to
three feet on the par 3 17th and made birdie. Steve finished with par on 18 to
shoot a 77, +7 and take the Victory.
Great
round gentlemen.
First
Place B Flight - Phil Sherer
Second
Place B Flight - Albert Delamarter
Third
Place B Flight - Tom Shepherd
B
flight came down to the wire today. Phil started out hotter then west Texas in
August, he scored pars on four of his first five holes shooting a solid 40 on
the front. Albert started off with back to back double bogeys but quickly got
it right back on track making par on 4 of the last 7 holes to finish with a 42
on the front. One of our new members, Tom Shepherd stepped in and played his
first stroke play tournament since high school. Started of his career at the
Golfweek amateur tour with a Par. From there he carded a couple of double
bogeys but still finished the front side with 4 pars and a total of 43 on the
front. Albert came out on the back and made par on the tenth hole, from there
he went on to card three pars on the back side with some bogey action in there
to finish just one behind the leader with a final score of 83, +13. Tom came
out on the back like an animal starting off with par on ten and then sticking
it to ten feet on the par three eleventh and drained his birdie putt and
received a super skin. Also, added a couple more pars to shoot an 85, +15 to
finish third. They just didn't have enough to get Phil. Starting off on the
back he went bogey, double bogey and left the door open, from there he made par
on 4 of the 8 holes remaining to card a 82, +12 to edge Albert by one stroke.
Great
battle guys.
First
Place C Flight - Scott Nishimura
Second
Place C Flight - Keith Waters
Third
Place C Flight - David King
Scott
came out red hot swinging that new Taylor Made Stealth driver, dropping bombs.
Starting off on Redbud he made four pars to start, sprinkle a couple bogeys on
holes 5-8 and finished up the front with a par on the ninth hole to shoot a 40
on the front. Kansas member and Tour Director David King made the trip across
the state with 9 of the Kansas players and it made for a fun tournament. David
started off bogey, bogey, par, and then carded some before finishing his front
strong with a par on 8 and bogey on 9 to shoot a 43, 3 strokes off the lead.
New member, Keith Waters, made a strong showing at his first tournament. Keith
started of with three bogeys and then said hold my beer and made four straight
pars with a couple of bogeys to follow to finish the front with 41, 1 stroke
off the lead. On the back David started off with a bogey streak that dropped
him out of the top two, but did make par on 17 to secure him a spot in the
money finishing with a 89, +19, breaking 90 for his first round of the year
finishing third. Keith played some bogey golf on the back and just left the door
open enough for David to comeback and tie. The tie breaker went to Keith who
also shot a 89, +19. Scott started off the back with four bogeys, he put a stop
to the bogey streak with a good par on the par three fifth. On the stretch of
holes coming home Scott made some bogeys to secure the victory carding a solid
84, +14 at the season opener. Way to battle out there.
First
Place D Flight - Terry Cardwell
Second
Place D Flight - Charlie Bieser
Terry
came down from the Kansas tour for the St. Louis season opener for the second
year in a row. His driver was set on kill and he delivered from the tee box all
day. Making two pars and carding 5 bogeys, he finished the front with a 44 and
a two stroke lead. Charles started off huge by paring the first hole to let
Cardwell know he was going to be there all day. Carding 2 pars and 3 bogeys,
Charles finished the front with a strong 47, three strokes off the lead. At the
turn Charles came out carded a triple bogey on 10 but bounced back with a par
right after that, from there he had 4 bogeys and ended his round with a par on
17 and a par on the long par 5 finishing hole, to secure the second place spot
with a solid 93, +23. With it coming down to the wire, Terry made a clutch par
on 17 along with some great bogey saves down the stretch to win his second
consecutive season opener tournament in St. Louis with a 92, +22. Great battle
today Guys.
