Matthew Spruill, Ron Sullins, Brian Harden, Dave Martin, and Wayne Enzor all won their respective flights at the Virginia Regional hosted by the Golden Horseshoe Golf Club on August 3rd and 4th.
The Virginia Regional brought members from 15 Golfweek Tours from across the country to Williamsburg, Virginia. This venue gave players an opportunity to compete on one of the top Virginia Golf Courses. With over 150 competitors for the Virginia Regional this year they all had a chance at over $10,000 in VISA Gift Cards awarded.
In the Championship Flight, Matthew Spruill (Tidewater, VA) won his third straight Virginia Regional at Golden Horseshoe. Spruill recorded scores of 78-73-151 to claim the first-place prize. Mike Hartselle (Tidewater, VA) took second posting scores of 81-75-156. Rounding out the prize places, Dennis Nelson (Tidewater,VA) carding 76-82-158 and Thomas Sutterfield (Tidewater, VA) scoring 80-79-159.
In the A Flight, Ron Sullins (Tidewater, VA) won his first Virginia Regional with a Two-Day total score of 131. Sullins recorded a 76 during the Sunday Round to come from behind on the Golden Horseshoe Gold Course. Taking second was, Marcus Godinez (Tidewater,VA). Rounding out the top 4 places was, Joshua VanCampen (Michigan East), Doug Cristina (Mississippi).
The A-Flight Round 1 was shortened to 13 holes due to lighting strikes in thearea and the safety of the players.
In the B Flight, Brian Harden (Tidewater, VA) carding 82-76-158 and won his first Virginia Regional, stamping his spot into the National Championship. Coming in second was Pat Crawford (Tidewater, VA) posting scores 82-81-163, and Max Shapiro (Washington, DC Metro) posting scores of 77-86-163. Rounding out the Top 4 places was, Sean Redmond (Richmond) carding 80-84-164.
In the C Flight, Dave Martin (Tidewater, VA) won his first Virginia Regional with a Two-Day score of 137, claiming his spot into the National Championship. Coming in second was Bobby Eckel (Tidewater, VA) recording a score of 139. Rounding out the top 4 places was Louis Lafayette (Washington, DC Metro) posting a 140, followed by Cory Johnson (Tidewater, VA) with a 143, and Christy McCauley (Washington, DC Metro).
The C-Flight Round 1 was shortened to 12 Holes due to Lighting Strikes in the area and the safety of the players.
In the D Flight, Wayne Enzor (Tidewater, VA) recorded scores of 91-87-178 and won his first Virginia Regional, taking his spot into the National Championship. Coming in second was Jimmie Williams (Richmond) carding 93-87-180. Rounding out the top 4 places was, Robert Dreelin (Tidewater, VA) with scores of 87-95-182, followed by Vince Thompson (Eastern NC) posting scores of 93-94-187.
Golfweek Amateur Tour helped to raise $4070 a new Regional record, to Jimmy V Foundation – Cancer Research by raffling a set of Srixon ZX4 irons, donated by our Tour sponsor Srixon.
