Jeff Wong, Mike Griggs, Travis Cooke, Mike Valentine, and Joe Peny all won the 2nd Annual Georgia Regional hosted by Sea Island Resort!
The Georgia Regional brought members from 20 of our Local Tours across the country to Sea Island, GA. The Plantation & Seaside Courses hosted 89 Golfweek Amateur Tour members.
In the Championship Flight, Jeff Wong (Hilton Head/Savannah) won his second Regional of the season. This time Wong came from two shots back to capture victory on the eighteenth hole with rounds of 73-69-142. Last year’s winner Lance Lacombe (Jacksonville, FL) had a tough finish coming home but still finished second with 72-71-143 to lose by just one shot. Chris Weinfurt (Milwaukee) finished solo third at 148 followed by Robert Wyrick (Hilton Head/Savannah) with 150. Kevin Kaminski (Tampa) finished tied fifth with Michael Taylor (Hilton Head/Savannah) both with 153.
In the A Flight, Mike Griggs (Columbia, SC) won by three shots with 78-78-156. Mike also won the Srixon Wedges in the Jimmy V Foundation raffle. Andy Hovest (Jacksonville, FL) was second at 159 followed by John Dobbins (Hilton Head/Savannah) in third with a 2-day total of 160. Kyle Dotson (North Central, FL) and Brandon Peterson (North Central, FL) both tied for fourth with 163.
In the B Flight, Travis Cooke (Tampa, FL) claimed victory by just one stroke with rounds of 82-79-161. Chris Novak (Hilton Head/Savannah) finished second at 162 followed by Bryan Stotts (Tampa) with 167. Jon Blum (North Central FL) last year’s winner finished fourth at 171 followed by George Masdea (Jacksonville, FL) and Nolan Elenz (Charlotte) both shooting 172 totals.
In the C Flight, Mike Valentine (Tampa, FL) came from five shots back with a Two-Day score of 89-84-173 total for the victory. Will Mendenhall (Nashville, TN) finished in second place carding a Two-Day total of 176 followed by Chris Ruder (South FL) in third place with 177. Scott Holland (Augusta, GA) finishing fourth at 185 and Javier Lajcha (Tampa FL) finished fifth with 186.
In the D Flight, Joe Peny (Hilton Head/Savannah) wins the crystal by posting a Two-Day total of 89-92-181. John Horn (Philadelphia) was solo second at 183 followed by Jay Thompson (Washington, DC Metro) with 187. Jeff Noel (Alabama) was fourth at 189 followed by Terry Hartle (North Central FL) and Zac Thompson (Washington, DC Metro) both finishing fifth at 190.
Winner of the Cleveland Golf CBX4 Wedges raffle was Mike Griggs (Columbia, SC). Raising a new record of $2380 with the proceeds going to the Jimmy V Foundation – Cancer Research.
