2024 Independence Day Regional - Recap

 

Phil Pfeiffer, Lucas Hardee, Brian Pope, Dallas Shackleford, and Zak Thompson all won their respective flights earning a 2024 National Championship Invitation!

The Independence Day Regional brought members from 17 Golfweek Tours from across the country to Myrtle Beach, SC. This venue gave players an opportunity to compete on the Grande Dunes Resort Course. With over 90 plus competitors, the Grande Dunes Staff were very impressed by the organization, communicative and professional teamwork of the Golfweek Staff to get this event kicked off. The Grande Dunes staff showcased why this course is one of the Top Courses in the Myrtle Beach area.

In the Championship Flight, Day 1 leader Stephen Pippin (ENC) held the overnight lead carding a 74, followed by Thomas Sutterfield (Tidewater, VA) 77, Kelvin Wiggins (ENC) 78 and finishing out the final group going into Day 2, Phil Pfieffer (Charleston) 79. Day 2 saw a dramatic change in the leaderboard, Pfeiffer’s come behind move saw his 79-75-154 claim the victory. Pippin 74-82-156 claimed 2nd, with Kevin Pak (ENC) 82-77-159 taking solo 3rd to finish above the pay line.

In the A Flight, Lucas Hardee (ENC) fired 76-79-155 never relinquishing the lead. Taking 2nd place was Ryan Melton (Columbia) 77-83-160, In 3rd position Sameer Siddiqi (Atlanta, GA) 88-73-161 and finishing in the 4th spot Jerry May (Central Carolina) 80-83-163.

In the B Flight, total of six places were awarded with Brian Pope (Atlanta, GA) coming out with the victory scoring 80-81-161, followed by Joseph Jones (Columbia) carding162, 3rd place Carlos Quinones scoring a 165 followed by two players tied, which lead to a scorecard playoff. Shooting a 2-Day total of 166 and coming down to Day 2 scores. Nick Adams posting an 82-claiming 4th place and Tim Dublynn carding an 84 taking 5th. Finishing out the flight is Craig Peplin (Atlanta, GA) 167.

In the C Flight, players saw a very close race to the finish line with Dallas Shackleford (ENC) 84-83-167 followed by Stan Boyer (Washington, DC Metro) 168, Jeremy Steele (ENC) 169 followed by Javier Lajcha (Tampa, FL) finishing out the flight winners with a 170.

In the D Flight, Zak Thompson (Washington, DC Metro) 89-93-182 finish claimed the top spot for the flight, Garry Branch (Washington, DC Metro) 185 claiming 2nd place, Glenn Lewis (ENC) carding an 186 taking 3rd place and Vince Thompson (ENC) shooting a 187 finishing in 4th place.

 

Winner of the Cleveland Golf CBX4 Wedges raffle was Stephen Pippin (ENC) and the Srixon ZX7 MKII Driver was Kevin McGaughey (Columbia, SC). Raising $500 with the proceeds going to the Jimmy V Foundation – Cancer Research.
