2024 Low Country Regional - Recap

 

Wes Strader – Champ Flight, George Lepine – A Flight, Kevin Bryars – B Flight, Will Palmer – C Flight and Ted Deese – D Flight all won the 2nd Annual Low Country Regional hosted by Ocean Creek Golf Course at Fripp Island!

The Low Country Regional brought members from 18 of our Local Tours across the country to Fripp Island, South Carolina. The Ocean Creek Golf Club hosted 116 Golfweek Amateur Tour members in the largest field ever in the event’s history! 

In the Championship Flight, Wes Strader (Eastern, NC) was tied with Ryan Bakken (Hilton Head/Savannah) after day one, as both players fired three-under-par 68’s.  Strader then pulled away two with another under-par round of 69 for a two-day total of 68-69-137. Bakken finished solo second at 144. Last year’s winner, Elliott Johnson (Hilton Head/Savannah) carded 145 and was highlighted with a score of 69 on Sunday.  David Schmidt (Charlotte) finished fourth at 145 losing the card playoff and Cooper Cram (Hilton Head/Savannah) rounded out the top five with 147.

In the A Flight, George Lepine (Hilton Head/Savannah) won by just one shot with 77-80-157.  Bob Sheahan (Eastern, NC) was second at 158 followed by Heidi Rittenhouse (Eastern, NC) in third with the low round for day two at 76, giving her a 2-day total of 160.  Jeff Knapstein (Richmond) and Mark Ducker (Charleston) both tied for fourth with 161.

In the B Flight, Kevin Bryars (Tidewater) claimed the victory by six strokes with rounds of 83-83-166.  Wes Mahaffey (Charleston), Chase Green (Hilton Head/Savannah), Rich Davis (Hilton Head/Savannah), and Tyler Burleson all tied for second at 172.  The gift card payouts 2nd - 5th are in order of the names just listed at 172 above.

In the C Flight, Will Palmer (Atlanta, GA) lead wire to wire with a two-day score of 83-83-166 total for the victory.  Bobby Jones (Augusta, GA) fished in second place with a two-day total of 172 followed by Joe Dreese (Charleston) in third place with 175.  Noah Borkowski (Columbia) finished fourth at 178 followed by Terry Lawson (South FL Tour Director) with 180.

In the D Flight, Ted Deese (Charleston) won the crystal, and the biggest turn around score, after posting a two-day total of 99-84-183.  Zak Thompson (Washington, DC Metro) was solo second at 191 followed by Jay Thompson (Washington, DC Metro) and Joe Scheib (Tampa) both with two-day scores of 192. Rounding out the top five was Michael Didion (Cincinnati/Dayton) who finished at 193.

Thanks to all who participated in the Cancer Raffle for the V Foundation as we raised the largest amount yet at a Regional with $1,650 collected.  Scott Edwards (Hilton Head/Savannah) was the winner of a set of Srixon Irons (ZX5 MKII).
