Steve Roberts, Derek Barnes, Jared Chiasson, Luke Lowrimore, and Dean Martel all won the Western States Icebreaker hosted by the Paiute Resort!
The Western States Icebreaker Regional brought members from 28 of our local Tours across the country to Las Vegas, NV for the second Regional tournament of the year. The Paiute Resort (Wolf Mountain) and (Sun Mountain) hosted over 100 Golfweek Amateur Tour members. The start of the 2024 season marks both the first regional out west and the 30th anniversary of the Golfweek Amateur Tour.
In the Championship Flight, Steve Roberts (Saint Louis) came from two shots back and was victorious on the 18th hole. Roberts posted scores of 81-76-157 followed by Matthew Foehse (Minneapolis Tour Director) with rounds of 81-77-158. Chris Legare (Hilton Head/Savannah) was solo third at 160 followed by Luke Bohm (Chicago) at 164 and Steve Basler (Denver) with 165 totals.
In the A Flight, Derek Barnes (Denver Tour Director) led wire to wire with rounds of 77-78-155 for the victory. A former Western Sates Champion Matt Bankston (Mississippi) finished second at 160 followed by Roger Stevenson (Charlotte) with a two-day total of 164. Ray Hernandez (California) with 165 and Rex Kyzer (Arkansas) with 167 rounded out the top five scores.
In the B Flight, Jared Chiasson (Mississippi) claimed victory by six strokes with rounds of 85-79-164. Scott Rhoades (Michigan East) finished second at 170 and Mark Morris (Upstate Tour Director) finished third with 172. Billy Aaron (Louisiana South) was fourth with 174 followed by Jason Junio (Arizona) fifth at 175, beating out two other players on the card playoff.
In the C Flight, Luke Lowrimore (Mississippi) came from four shots back with a two-day score of 88-84-172 total for the victory. Mike Gunnels (Louisiana South) the day one leader fished in second place with a two-day total of 178. Daniel Henry (Dallas-Fort Worth) and Jordan Isaac (Arizona) finished tied third at 179. Daniel Wiig (Arizona) last year’s winner and Jason Lilly (Washington, DC) tied for fifth with 181.
In the D Flight, Dean Martel (Mississippi) wins the crystal by posting a two-day total of 86-104-190. Frank Romano (New Jersey) and Greg Davis (Houston) finished tied second at 195 with Romano winning on the card playoff. James Hudgins (Michigan East) was fourth at 196 followed by Mike Wood (California) with 196.
