FRANK WINS FOR FIRST TIME IN 2011; ONDO WINS AT SOUTHERN DUNES FOR SECOND STRAIGHT YEAR
Posted: 5/7/2011 11:30:17 AM

It was a perfect day for golf at Southern Dunes.  Warm temperatures, light wind and excellent course conditions greeted over 100 players.  And fast greens....really fast greens!  There were a lot of "motor boat" rounds--you know, putt, putt, putt, ...(insert laugh track here)....But everyone had to play the same course and we paid the winners as always!

Chad Frank (pictured) won for the first time in 2011 by beating first year member Chris Boylan on the first extra hole in a playoff.  They matched rounds of 77 on the long demanding Southern Dunes course.  Chad Wesby finished 3rd with 79 as only three players could break 80.  There were 20 players in the Championship flight last week, so it was a well earned victory on a tough golf course.

David Parker was the only player in A flight who posted a score under 80.  His 79 was good for a one stroke victory over Mike Lombardo's 80.  Rick Macali, Brad Bettin and John Marshall followed in a tie third with rounds of 81.

The B flight went to Bryce Hartley, a member of the Jacksonville tour.  He shot a sizzling 75 and coasted to a four stroke win over Kevin Wilkey (79).  It was another two strokes back to Adam Wilson in third place.

Len Benedetti, the Tampa Golfweek Tour Director shot 90 to take the C flight.  Kelly Minton from the North Central Florida senior Amateur tour finished second with 92. Gordon Gibbs was the top Orlando finisher in C flight with 93.

John Thomas, back from a year away from the tour, fired a nice 96 and took the D flight top prize.  Joshua Johnson (102) and Dana Turgeon (104) were 2nd & 3rd, respectively.

David Parker "Double Dips" as A & Senior A fight winner

In the senior flights, Joe Ondo was tops in Senior Championship with 78.  It was the second straight year he won at Southern Dunes.

David Parker (79) was tops in Senior A flight by a single shot over Mike Lombarso (80). Ben Hamby took the Senior B flight with 83.  Carl Isbell and John Pringle tied for 2nd with 85.

NEXT EVENT is May 14 at Orange Lake Legends.  SPECIAL START TIME--11:30 AM
