Chas McIntyre Takes C Flight at OCN
Ideal weather and terrific course condtions greeted Edwin Watts Golf Amateur Tour members at Orange County National's Panther Lake course. Every flight featured outstanding performances and many low scores. Eric Baker led the way in Championship flight with a solid round of 35-35-70 to capture the top prize. Travis Griffin fasioned an even par round of 36-36-72. Great playing on the course that will host the PGA Tour Final Q-School later this year. Cory Walker and Jason Cranford were tied fior third with 74's. A flight found the course much to theri liking. Stacy Banach and Steve Cleary led the way as 11 players broke 80. Stacy bounced back, in a big way, from a bad round at Disney to shoot sizzling three under 33 on his opening nine at OCN. He kept it going as he closed with 37 for a 2-under score of 70. Steve Cleary was all smiles as he finished his round--an equally impressive score of 71--only to find that he would have to settle for second place on this day. Great golf, fellas! Newcomer David Hatch and veteran Paul Cope tied for third with 75's. Three more players tied at 76 with John Marshall winning the scorecard match for the fifth place prize. Brad Kondo had the hot hand in B flight. He topped Dan Gardner and Arnie Guerra who shared second place. Subernia Johnson posted 79 to finish fourth. She continues to hold the top spot in the B flight Player of the Year race. C flight continues to produce close finishes each tournament. This time it was Chas McIntyre's turn at the top (pictured above). He carded a fine 83 for an unusual three stroke victory over Chace Petersen and Brian Mariani. Michael Damewood of the Jacksonville tour finished fourth with 88. Tim Sobitz III, playing for the first time in 2010 didn't waste any time in claiming a victory. He topped the D flight with 86. Brodric Johnson finished second with 89. In senior play, Cory Walker and Steve Maddox tied for first with 74. Cory won the playoff to take the first place prize. David Hatch was playing his first event and he captured first place with his 75 in senior A. Jeff Bradshaw was just one shot back with 76. Robbie Robinson took thrid (78) and continues to hold the points lead for the Player of the Year. Arnie Guerra's 77 was tops in senior B flight. Greg Takacs was a distant second with 82. NEXT EVENT: Sugarloaf Mountain on August 7..
