Falcon's Fire is a Tour Favorite
After a fun day at ChampionsGate, it was back to the business of qualifying for the Tour Championship in Hilton Head. It was hot at Falcon's Fire, and as usual, we got some good performances on one of our favorite courses on the schedule. Bill Foster continued his fine play this season as he took first place in Championship flight with a one-over 73. He edged past Cory Walker by a single stroke. Rob Kempinski took third place with 75. Bill, Cory and Rob also play in the Senior Championship flight at each tournament. Steve Maddox carded an even par 72 to top them in the Senior flight. A flight saw some fine scores as well. Stacy Banach shot an even par 72 to top 19 players in the flight. He won by 2 strokes. Steve Cleary posted 75 to finish third, followed by John Marshall (76) and David Parker (79). The Senior A flight went to Jeff Bradshaw. His 78 was good enough for a one shot win over David Parker. Brad Bettin took third with 82. Brad Kondo ran away from the B flight as he posted his season best 76. He finished four clear of Arnie Guerra, who would have won most any other day with his fine 80. Bob Santee (82) and Rick Whitman (84) rounded out the prize winners in B flight. Arnie's 80 was good enough for first place in Senior B and Rick Whitman took second. C flight continues to be perhaps the most competitive of all our flights. This week was no exception. Chace Petersen turned in 83 and it stood up as Brian Mack followed with 84. Michael Damewood from the Jacksonville tour took home third place with a nice 85. And first year player Gordon Gibbs grabbed fourth place with 86. It is fun to watch this flight week in and week out as they seem to be evenly matched up and down the line. Justin Cranford took first place in the D flight and he was followed by James Rearden wh kept his hold on the top spot in the race for Player of the Year in the flight. Justin has played well enough that he will move to C flight at his next event. You might have noticed that many of our players over 50 choose to compete in regular and senior flights. Tour rules allow seniors (over 50) to pay $25 extra to get into a regular flight as well. This week it paid off for severao players. Just another reason the Edwin Watts Golf Amateur Tour remains "central Florida's Tour of Choice". NEXT EVENT: We're going to Disney World! The Magnolia course to be specific--on July 10.
