NOTICE - CANCELLATION OF SOUTHERN PINES COUNTRY CLUB EVENT
The Golfweek Amateur Golf Tour event slated for 6/20 at Southern Pines Country Club has been canceled. For the second year in a row, their course administration has fouled up their calendar and given our date that was agreed upon up to another function.
If you have paid for this event, obviously you will receive a full refund. I will also mention this at both events prior to that date. Due to their late notification of the cancelation, no substitute venue will be used for June 20th. It will simply be an off day on the schedule.
Due to their lack of professionalism, we will not be considering their course for any later date this year. Sorry for any inconvenience or disappointment and thanks for your understanding.

5 GO LOW IN GOLFWEEK WINS
Browns Summit, NC
June 13, 2015
Gibsonville's Neal Faulkner led a group of 5 Golfweek Tour members in earning wins today at Bryan Park on The Players Course. All five had to produce impressive scores to secure their victories.
Bryan Park (Players) - Championship Flight Winner:
Neal Faulkner
Faulkner, playing in the Championship flight, fired a 1-under 71 to the secure the top spot in his group. He was 3 strokes clear of a threesome - Greensboro's Tod Dauler, Shannon's Stephen Pippin and David Schmidt of Charlotte. Faulkner was a model of consistency as his 3 birdies offset only 2 bogeys on his card.
Greensboro's Mike Crawford enjoyed the same 3 stroke margin in the A Flight, posting a 72 that was 3 clear of Burlington's Joe Magyar. Like a number of other players in the event, Crawford posted his lowest score of the season for the win.
Bryan Park (Players) - A Flight Winner: Mike Crawford
Joe Rollison traveled from Christianburg, VA to secure his B Flight win with a 76, narrowly edging Raleigh's Nick Slager and Jimmy Adams of Greenville by a single shot. He led a group of 6 in the Flight who all managed to break the 80 barrier.
Bryan Park (Players) -B Flight Winner: Joe Rollison
In the C Flight it was once again just a single shot that separated the winner from the runner-up as Andy Bousman's career Tour low score of 83 was just enough for the win. The Kernersville resident edged Landon Wilkes of Apex who once again was among the top C Flight finishers.
Bryan Park (Players) - C Flight Winner: Andy Bousman
Seth Hawkins broke the magical 90 stroke barrier in the D Flight, posting an 88 that was 3 clear of Piney Point, MD's Mike Charles, the winner of last week's Golfweek event at Longleaf Golf Club.
Bryan Park (Players) - D Flight Winner: Seth Hawkins
Due to a scheduling error on their part, the Southern Pines event that was slated for next Saturday, June 20, has been canceled. Tour play will resume on 6/27 at Little River Resort for the 2015 season's third Major Championship. Spots are available for that event.

Rules Review
It has been suggested that there should be a series of Rules scenarios for you to solve. So begins a series of problems titled What's the Score?
Doc Miller has graciously agreed to allow me to share these with you that he has been sending since July 2009.
I will include one each week. You should try to determine the answer based upon your knowledge of the Rules when ever possible and then use your Rule book to confirm.
There will be no trick questions or hidden information.

Question from week #308
Brian and Ryan are head-to-head in a match. After six holes Ryan is 1 up. While playing the seventh hole, Ryan’s tee ball has come to rest in a three inch deep crevice just off the fairway. The ground has apparently been eroded from underneath due to a broken buried drainage pipe that caused the damage probably due to recent heavy rains. Ryan thinks this should be GUR.
Brian disagrees and he points out that the ground on the course is constantly undergoing minor shaping by the elements and Ryan has no choice but to deal with the ball as it lies. Ryan states he will play two balls and let the Committee decide and Brian agrees. Ryan further states he wants the second ball to count for score if permitted by the Rules.
With his original ball, he deems it unplayable, takes correct relief and makes 5 on the hole. With the second ball he takes procedurally correct free relief from the area he thinks is GUR and makes 4 on the hole. Brian makes 5 on the hole.
While playing the 8th hole, they bump into a member of the Committee, describe the situation from the previous hole and ask for a ruling as to the status of the match.
The correct status of the match is:
A. The match is all square.
B. Ryan is 1 up
C. Ryan is 2 up.
D. Brian is deemed the victor in the match as Ryan is DQed.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Answer
B. Ryan remains 1 up, the previous hole was halved with each player making 5. This is match play. If there is a doubtful situation, the sides in the match must either resolve the situation to their mutual satisfaction or acknowledge that a dispute as to the outcome of the hole exists and then report to the Committee to resolve the situation. With his original ball, Ryan deemed it unplayable, incurred a 1-stroke penalty and made five, as did Brian so the hole was halved. Play of a second ball, as described in R3-3, only applies to stroke play, never to match play.
In match play, this incorrectly played second ball would normally be deemed a “wrong ball” and Ryan would have lost the hole if Brain had made a timely claim. But Brian made no such claim by the time they teed off on the 8th hole, thus this second ball is immaterial to the outcome of this match.
It is up to the sides in a match to either agree on a proper way to resolve a dispute, or, if they cannot, have the Committee rule. The outcome would have been different had Ryan proceeded as if his situation would be ruled as GUR by the Committee, taken the proper relief and made four.
Then when the sides presented the situation to a member of the Committee, if the Committee happen to rule in Ryan’s favor, he would have won the hole and been two up. If they ruled it was not GUR, then Ryan would have lost the hole for playing from a wrong place and the match would have been all square.

Tour Weather Guidelines:
Primarily, we adhere to the same guidelines that the PGA Tour uses: If the course is open, we're going to play.
The only exception to this is that I'll never put any of you in harm's way during an event because of dangerous weather. (i.e. - lightening or severe cold and wetness).
In other words, I won't let the course "bully" us into playing where an unsafe condition might exist.
Because I arrive at every event at least two hours prior to the start time and I generally have to leave my house at least an hour before that to get to the course, there is no sense calling me just before the event, because I won't be at the office. The best avenue to take is to call the course if the weather seems threatening.
If you are on the roster for the event, and you do not get a cancellation notice from the course after calling them, you are expected to show up in time for the scheduled shotgun start.
