Wanted to give a big thank you to the whole staff at
Stonewolf GC. Nothing but quality people
in that building, they are top notch.
Champ Flight Winner – Chris Pestka
The day started with scattered showers and some wind that
was blowing in the players face for a majority of the day, it made for wild day
on the golf course. Chris Pestka didn’t
wait long to start playing some really good golf. After starting off with a bogey he got right
back to even numbers by making a birdie on hole 2. He followed that up by playing the next four
holes at -1 with three straight pars and a birdie to cap off the mini run. Pestka added two more pars to make the turn with
an impressive 36 even par, with a 5-stroke lead going to the back. Chris started the back off with three
straight pars and then added another birdie on 14, this guy has the sauce. From there he added another par and then
things got a little hairy on the final three finishing holes but ultimately Chris
does what Chris does and held on to get the job done, finishing with a 42, +6
on the back for a total of 78, +6 to win his 7th victory on the year
by four strokes. That makes another great
showing for the Golfweek Amateur Tour’s Champ flight points leader. Great round CP.
A Flight Winner – Keith Bullock
After a month off, Keith came out like a rocket ship today
starting his round off with a bang. Bullock had five pars and a birdie through his first six holes. He added another par to finish his front side
up with a solid 38, +2. That gave him a four-stroke
lead at the turn, over last tournaments winner, Chris Clem. On the back side Keith was in some tough
spots but still managed to make three pars but did have some bogeys on the back
that let Chris Clem, who fought really tough on the back, to sneak in and tie
it up. Unfortunately for Keith, he
missed a makable putt to take the victory on 18. When it was all said and done, Bullock and
Clem were both tied at 83, +11. They
headed to hole 10 to find out the winner. The boys played three playoff holes going back and forth before Keith
Bullock rose to the occasion and claimed victory. That is Keith’s second victory on the year in
just five events. Great job on battling all
day and on the extra playoff holes gentlemen. Heck of a win, Keith.
B Flight Winner – Chris Poetz
Chris Poetz coming off a win at the last tournament at
Missouri Bluffs GC, he had going back-to-back in his thoughts before teeing it
up at a beautiful course designed by Jack Nicklaus. Poetz was doing some scrambling on the front
but did make four solid pars and a birdie as well. Also, Mr. Poetz took home both closest to the
pin awards on the front on holes 5 and 8. He likes his chips with dip. Chris
made the turn shooting 44, +6 giving him a 2-stroke lead over Justin Feroce. On the back Chris rolled up his sleeves and
went to work making five pars and when mistakes were made, they were minimal and
most of the time bogey was the worst result. Poetz came in the clubhouse shooting 42, +6 for a total of 86, +14 to dominate
by nine strokes and take home his third career win on the Golfweek Am
Tour. Would be so cool to three-peat at
the year-end major. Nice work, Chris.
C Flight Winner – Scott Nishimura
The C flight points leader Scott Nishimura was in his bag
again today. Scottie started his day
with back-to-back pars to set the tone. He then poured in a birdie on hole five,
plus a couple more pars to finish the frontside strong with a 4-stroke lead at
41, +5. Kevin Reed making his first ever
competitive tournament appearance made a solid showing draining some big pars,
also scrambling to make some clutch bogey saves on the front nine, his flat
stick was on kill today. Reed made the turn at 45, +9 four strokes off the
lead. Onto the back, Kevin added two
more pars and also drained a Birdie on hole 13 to put the pressure on “ The
Nish”. Reed finished his second nine with a 46, +10 for a total of 91, +19. Also,
the birdie on the 13th held
up for a super skin, little extra clammies never hurt nobody. Scottie started the back playing steady,
making a par on eleven the par three, but it was a clutch birdie on the par five
14th that kept the gap to a four-stroke lead. From there, Scottie made it interesting but
was able to hold off Reed with a 46, +10 on the back to make his totals for the
day at 87, +15 to win by four strokes. Another one for the C Flight points
leader. That makes win number 5 on the
season and career win number 7. Cheers to
another great win in your already impressive season, Scott.
D Flight Winner – Colin Dooley
With Justin Finley moved up to the C flight, who was going
to be the one to challenge the points leader Roddy Finley for the trophy on the
overcast rainy day at the Wolf. Colin
Dooley came out and put some good holes together including back-to-back pars on
holes 8 and 9 to turn the momentum around so he could make a run. Colin finished the first nine with a 51, +15 that
put him 5 strokes off the lead but with a whole second nine to chase down Roddy.
Colin was up for the challenge. On the
back, Dooley really got it dialed when it mattered, going off with a par streak
on holes 13 through 16. Then on 18 the
tough finishing hole, Colin buried his par putt to finish with a 45, +9 and a
total of 96, +24 to edge out Roddy Finley by two strokes to get his first win
of the year, and career win number 3 on the Golfweek Amateur Tour. Congratulations on getting back in the winner
circle, Colin. Your hard work is
starting to pay off, and that my friend is an incredible feeling.
