Champ Flight Winner – Chris Pestka
Chris set out to win his fourth tournament of the year on a
beautiful day at the wonderful Pevely Farms Golf Club. Pestka started out
bogey, bogey, but then stepping on the tee box of hole three the reachable par
4 he turned it on, parring the next 4 holes and adding another par on the par
three 8th to take a 40 to the back with a 4-stroke lead. This is where the current Champ flight points
leader put the pedal to the floor going, par, birdie, par, par, birdie, par, on
the first 6 holes on the back and finished up with a 38 on the second nine for
a total of 78 to win by 12 strokes. Congratulations on your fourth win of the season
Chris! Can anyone beat this man??
A Flight Winner – Keith Bullock
First year member, Keith Bullock, came out and put on a tutorial
on the front nine. Keith cupped six pars and two birdies with his only blemish coming
on the par 4 fourth, that being a bogey.
With that he took a 35 and a 5-stroke lead to the back. Although 10, 11, and 12 tested his game, he
made it through and got back to playing some solid golf down the stretch by
parring 4 of the final 6 holes to finish with a 47 on the back and a total of
82 to win his first victory on the Golfweek Amateur Tour by two strokes. Congratulations on getting that first one,
Keith! Welcome to the winners circle, buddy.
B Flight Winner – Brian Barnes
Kansas member, Brain Barnes decided to make his way down to St.
louis for the second time this season.
Finishing in 4th place at Aberdeen must have left a bad taste
in his mouth because he set out to lift the hardware at Pevely. On the front, Barnes played bogey golf for
the most part but did throw in three pars to finish up the front side with a 45
that put him 4 strokes off the lead. New
member to the tour, Kyle Doherty, came out guns blazing in his first event on
the Golfweek Am Tour. Kyle carded 4 pars
and a birdie on the front, shooting a 41, that gave him a 1 stroke lead heading
to the back. Kyle started off the backside
with back-to-back pars, but after that had a couple of hiccups. Doherty did what he could by adding a couple
of pars and another birdie down the stretch but it was a tough break on 18 that
took him out of it. Great job in your
first event, Kyle. Mr. Barnes, down by 4,
played out of his mind on the back parring 7 of the 9 holes to climb back from
that 4-stroke deficit and finish the last hole with a great par to solidify his
victory. Brian shot 38 on the back for a
total of 83 and won by 2 strokes. Heck
of a win, Brian! That trip back home is always better with some hardware and a
little cheese.
C Flight Winner – Scott Nishimura
Scott Nishimura AKA “The Nish” is on a real heater this year,
playing some really good golf. That wouldn’t
change at Pevely Farms. Starting out on one
Scottie went par, birdie, birdie to start and set the tone for the day. Scott
did have a couple bogey holes but also added a couple more pars to finish the
front with a solid 40 and a two-stroke lead.
Starting off the back, Scottie birdied ten and parred eleven, two very
tough holes. Down the stretch on the
backside, The Nish made back-to-back triples on 16 and 17 which opened the door
for first year player Rei Nakamura to slide in and try and take the victory. On 18 Scottie made an impressive par which gave
him a 46 on the back for a total of 86. Rei
Nakamura came in with a 44 on the back and a total of 86 also. For the Tie breaker we headed to hole
one. Both Players didn’t hit their best
tee shot but both were still in position to have a shot at the green. Scottie on his approach hit an incredible
shot to 5 foot and would make the Birdie to win his 4th tournament
this year and 6th career win on Tour. Congratulations, Scott!
D Flight Winner – Les Mays
Les Mays came out looking for win number three on the season
against a very competitive D Flight. Les
is just steady as the come. After
starting with a double, he ran off four pars in a row and added some solid
bogeys to finish up the first 9 with a 43, and a 4-stroke lead at the turn. On the back, Les came out throwing
darts. Playing the toughest stretch of
holes on the course, holes 10-12, he played them at even par, and he added two
more pars on holes 13 and 14. Mr. Mays
finished his round with a 42 on the back nine to shoot a total of 85 and
destroy the competition by 7 strokes.
That makes it number Three on the season in wins for Les. Big congratulations on your victory and with
the change in your AGT index, you’re now being promoted the C flight. Way to go,
Les. Heck of run through the D.
