Cranford Tops Field at Duran
Tour veteran Jason Cranford captured the second event of the 2010 Edwin Watts Golf Amateur Tour played at Duran. He topped a large field of 21 players in the Championship flight with his 4-over par 76 in mild, but breezy conditions. The course was in excellent condition and was challenging for everyone. Jim Hammons finished second with 77. Three players were another stroke back. They included Chad Frank, Mike Menyhart and first time player BJ Johnson. It is great to see the numbers continue to grow in the Championship flight.
John Marshall led the way in A flight. He cared a 78. It was god enough to edge past Tom Dillon by a single stroke as they were the only A flight players able to break 80 this day. Ed Paterniti shot 80 to claim third place. In the B flight Craig Stone, playing in his first event this year after claiming the senior B title at the Tour Championship last November, shot 80 to capture the top prize. He was three better than Chet Rakowski. Paul Cope was third with 85.
The C flight continues, week in and week out, to be the most competitive flight on tour. This week it was Russell Outram who topped everyone with his 87. Randolph Hill and Chas McIntyre tied for second with 89. In all, seven players were within six strokes of the winning score.
The D flight belonged to James Rearden. He coasted to a six stroke victory with a score of 98. Last year James finished second in the Player of the Year race that came down to the last event. He looks like he is going to make a push for the top spot this year. Newcomer Lawrence Blunk was second with 104.
In the senior flights, Steve Maddox shot 74 to take first place in the senior Championship flight. He was three better than Jim Hammons. Last time out at Black Bear, Steve was in a three way playoff before losing on the first extra hole. He made sure he didn't need extra holes this time.
Senior A flight went to Ed Paterniti who shot 80. He beat David Parker and Robbie Robinson by a single shot. Parker won the second place prize on the scorecard match. Craig Stone's 80 was three better than Chet Rakowski in seionr B.
NEXT EVENT: April 17 at Grand Cypress.
