Joel Adams Wins 5-way playoff in A flight
For the first time in tour history, the Edwin Watts Amateur Tour had a five person playoff. Joel Adams (pictured), David Parker, Steve Johnson, Matt Tickle and Dennis Cargo all posted 76's in the A flight at Stoneybrook West. Now, one might think that a five person playoff would take some time. But such was not the case. Johnson, Tickle and Parker all went out on the first extra hole and Dennis Cargo's missed putt on the second hole made first year member Adams a winner in only his second event on tour. It was great to see a fleet of carts head off down the playoff holes to watch the action.
In the Championship flight, Wayne Zeigler fired a 73 that included a fine 33 on the front nine. The hot start was good enough to hold off the freshly promoted Eric Baker. Obviously Eric had no trouble adjusting to the Championship flight. Ray Vigeant and Jim Hammons tied for third with 75.
Tim Sobitz led the way in B flight with a fine 78. It was good for a three stroke win over Dan Lambdin. Steve Cleary was another stroke back at 82. Dan Seidenfaden had the hot hand in C flight this week. He took a five stroke victory over Chas McIntyre and Larry English with an outstanding scoure of 85..
Wanne Weaver ran away with the D flight this week. He posted 93. It was nine strokes back to the next place as Ian Halliwell and Alberto Experon tied for second with scores of 102.
Dennis Brady topped the Senior Championship flight with a fine 2-under par 70. Rob Kempinski took second, shooting 75. John Vizzini led the way in Senior A flight with 75. He edged past Steve Johnson by a single shot. Robbie Robinson was third with 77. Tim Sobitz and Dan Lambdin doubled up as their 78 and 81, respectively, also took the top two places in Senior B flight.
Next up is our first 2-day event of the year--May 16-17 zg Southern Dunes.
