On April 18 the Orlando egolf tour participated in the Earth Day tour wide celebration. Over 600 golf balls were collected to recycle. Thanks to everyone who helped out!
Eric Baker earned the first "battlefield promotion" of 2009 at Duran. He posted a terrific score of 71 to top the A flight. It was his thrid score of the year under 80. He will join the Championship flight next time out. Eric is a great example of how players improve their game on tour. He started in the B flight 2 years ago and with practice and a few lessons, has steadily moved up. Congratulations Eric!
The Championship flight found the going tough from the back tees as Sean Marlowe's 77 was good enough to take top honors. Still, the competition was close as six other players came in between 78-81. Bryan Harrell shot 78 while Mike Menyhart and Bill Shufelt serte next at 79.
B flight belonged to Steve Cleary. His 80 was good for a five stroke win over a trio of players; Phillip Maggard, Rick Broennle and Ben Hamby. Broennle is pictured below putting on the ninth green at Duran Saturday.
Competition in the C flight was also close this week. Bill Pettigrew carded an 89 to edge past Brian Mariani and Chas McIntyre by 2 shots. John Byrd was another shot back on 92. D flight turned into a two man race as Hud Hudson shot a 90 and finished one stroke ahead of Randy Stephens, who was in the clubhouse with a 91.
Jim Flagg took top honors in the Senior Championship flight with 78. Rob Kempinski was second with 79. Steve Johnson, comfortable on his home course, took Senior A flight with an 80. Peter McCallan and Brad Bettin were two back on 82. The best round probably belonged to Mike Pettigrew in the Senior B flight. He carded a 76 to win by 9 shots over Phillip Maggard and Ben Hamby
