BOB MIRUS MEMORIAL @ GRAND CYPRESS
JACK NICKLAUS DESIGN PROVIDES PLENTY
OF CHALLENGES
Orlando, FL;
Summer is here in Florida now! With temperatures in the mid 90’s, 84 players
tested their skill and stamina in the 15th
Bob Mirus Memorial @ Grand Cyprress.
The 27 Jack Nicklaus holes provided more than enough challenge all
weekend. We thank Orlando member Steve
Start for sponsoring this event. This
tournament celebrates the memory of Bob
Mirus, Orlando director Tom Mirus’
late father who helped Tom start the Orlando tour in 1997.
Saturday we played the North-South
course and Sunday it was the South-East course so we got to play all three
nines that were available.
Championship
Flight—Tour veterans
Chad Frank, Jeff Moritz and John Ward waged a weekend long battle
for the title. Frank grabbed the first day lead with 74. Ward
and Moritz were right behind with 75’s. Sunday was more of the same. Moritz struggled early but ended playing
steady golf down the stretch to shoot 77 and finish at 152. Ward
found trouble on his 17th hole and fell away with 81-156. Frank
just came up one shot short after a 79-153.
So it was Jeff Moritz first, Chad Frank second and John Ward third.
A

Cypress. And it showed as he ran off to a nine stroke victory with back to back

Saturday 78, moved up to second after an 85 Sunday. First

Corbett (81-83-164) and John James (83-81) tied for
third.

after rounds of 80 and 81, respectively.
