PGA TOUR’S VALSPAR CHAMPIONSHIP

It was a spring weekend to remember in Tarpon Springs, FL. 124 players from 20 GWAT tours enjoyed two of
the best courses along Florida’s west coast.
Innisbrook’s Copperhead and Island courses hosted the Golfweek Florida Regional presented by Express Medical Delivery.
The Island was first on Saturday, then the final round Sunday on the
Copperhead. The Copperhead course is home to the Valspar Championship on the
PGA Tour each March. Holes 16-18 on the
Copperhead are known as the Snakepit.
First year tour member Erik MacDonald (Orlando)
75-70-145 overtook first day leader Chad Frank (Orlando) 74-75-149 with a
1-under par 70 on the Copperhead course to claim victory in the Championship Flight. Josh
Earnest () 75-81-156 was third.
Jason
Manning (Orlando) took top honors in the A flight with rounds of 85-81-166.
He slipped past Luke Andros
(Chicago), 84-83-167 and Eric Kellough
(Orlando), 81-86-167 by one. Dale Missildine (Tampa) 82-86-168
was fourth.
Mason
Coker (Tampa), 80-88-168 took a three
stroke win in B flight. Gary Barrow
(Kentucky) 84-87-171 edged out Mike
Gilbert (Tampa) 86-86-172 to finish second. Neil Corbett
(Orlando) 85-88-173 was another shot back in fourth.
In C flight, Michael
Schuler 91-83-174 sailed to a five shot win
over Scott
Callahan (Tampa) (90-89-179)
and George Ricardo (Orlando),
90-89-179. Billy Davis
(Orlando) 90-91-181 finished in fourth.
Angelo
Salalila (Tampa) took the top prize in the D flight after rounds of 91-94-185.
It was six better than second place finisher Danny Hinkley (Orlando) 94-97-191. Mike Cefalo (Eastern NC) 96-97-193 and Gary Hedges (Columbus, OH) 96-97 were
next. Cefalo won the match of cards for third place.
