TEAM ORLANDO / TAMPA WINS 2018 FLORIDA CUP
VICTORY CAPS GREAT 2018 FOR ORLANDO & TAMPA TOURS
72 PLAYERS FROM THE FOUR FLORIDA GOLFWEEK & SENIOR TOURS COMPETED
IN THE 2018 FLORIDA CUP @ LPGA INTERNATIONAL
I want to thank all the members of the Golfweek and Senior Amateur Tour / Orlando and Tampa for another successful Florida Cup: After two straignt wins for the Jacksonville / NCF team, this year it was Orlando / Tampa's turn. Steady rain forced an early end to the Sunday singles matches, but Saturday's foursomes and fourball matches were played under partly cloudy skies, warm temperatures and on a great golf course. Orlando / Tampa jumped out to a 10.5 to 7.5 ilead n the morning alternate shot format. After a break for lunch, the afternoon better ball competition also ended 10.5 to 7.5 in favor of Orlando / Tampa. Sunday's started with Orlando / Tampa holding a 21-15 lead. After heavy rain forced the course to close with six matches still on the course, it was decided to count both the completed matches and the unfinished matches using the scores of each unfinished match as they stood when play stopped. The Sunday result was 17.5 for Orlando / Tampa and 17.5 for Jacksonville / NCF: Which left Orlando / Tampa with a 38.5 to 32.5 victory. Thanks to all the players from all the Florida tours for another fun event that has proven so popular with the players.
The victory capped a terrific season for Orlando as we won the Golfweek Amateur Tour National Team Championship and now have won the 2018 Florida Cup. It is truly a season to remember.
And Tampa, Robbie Robinson continues to build that tour back up as they brought more players to the Florida Cup this year than last.
We are already looking forward to 2019.
ORLANDO WINS 2018 GOLFWEEK AMATEUR TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM CUP
Thanks all the members of the Golfweek and Senior Amateur Tour / Orlando for another successful year: I know those that went to Hilton Head this year had a great time and are already looking to qualify again next year. We hope those of you who could not go this year can qualify to represent us next year on the national stage. For the second time in tour history (2006 was the first), Orlando won the Team competition. Twenty-seven teams competed for the trophy. Using 10 scores each day (2 from each fight) Orlando edged Charlotte by 4 strokes after 3 rounds--2535-2539. That's very close! Don't let anyone tell you that every stroke doesn't count--it does. Congratulations to our players.
