CORY WALKER LEADS WAY WITH 69 IN CHAMPIONSHIP FLIGHT;
BILL RAMBO OPENS WITH WIN IN SENIOR A FLIGHT
Cory Walker Cards Solid 69 To Take Championship &
SrChampionshipFlight At Black Bear
It
was a typical spring day at Black Bear Golf Club--sunny skies, pleasant
temperatures and plenty of wind--as the Orlnado Golfweek Amateur Tour
opened it's 2015 season. 90 golfers tested the Pete Dye course in
Eustis, FL. It is a tour favorite as we have opened our season here 15
of 19 years. With a good mix of new as well as veteran members, the
competition was good across all flights.
Cory Walker stole the show with a solid round of 34-35-69 to top Matt Tickle's
round of even par 72. Cory also doubles in the senior Championship
side and cruised to a seven stroke victory over two players from the
North Central Florida Tour, Bob Wildner and Rich Wake. They
tied for second at 76. Twenty-one players competed in the Championship
flight this week. If you are low handicap player looking for some more
competition, you should check us out.
Bill Rambo Wins Senior A Flight With 80
Sam Bellamy took top honors in the A flight. He shot an 82 which was one better than a trio of players that included Michael Gomes, Ryan Huisman and Alex Piazza--all finishing on 83 to tie for second. Bill Rambo (pictured above) shot a nice round of 80 to take first place in the Senior A flight. He was four clear of second place Donald Dunnivant (84).
(L-R) Terry Lawson, SrC Flight; Jay Freeman, C Flight & Michael Turner, B Flight
The
B flight was the most closely contested as three players tied for first
place and forced our first playoff of the year. Veteran Ray Rodriguez, tour rookie Michael Turner and Donald Lamb who transferred to Orlando from Columbus, OH all shot 81's. It took two extra holes before Michael Turner won with a par on the tough 18th, a par-4 with the second shot all over water. Dan Seidenfaden (82) missed by one shot of joining them for the extra holes. Ray Rodriguez also doubles in Senior B and his 81 was good for a three stroke win over Mark Klenck (84). In C flight Jay Freeman came out on top after a round of 86. It was good for a one stroke victory over Joe McCall's 87. Angel Gonzalez was another stroke back on 88. New this year is the Senior C flight. Second year member Terry Lawson took home the first Senior C victory on the Orlando tour, shooting 91. It edged Joe Porter (92) by one.
First Time Player Kevin Borak Wins D Flight With 88
New member Kevin Borak took the top prize in the D flight after a solid score of 88. It was five better than second place finisher Frank Fornari (93).
