FRANK SHOOTS 68; TAL JOHNSON WINS LARGEST PLAYOFF IN SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP TOUR HISTORY
91 Golfweek Amateur Tour members teed it up at Falcon's Fire on June 14. Players found the course a little after a couple of days of afternoon showers. Lift, clean and place was in use--a good thing since another shower caught a number of groups during their finishing holes--and it led to some good scoring..
Championship Flight: Chad Frank fresh from his victory on the first major at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie fired a flawless 4-under 68 to win for the fourth time in seven starts this year. Danny Nash shot 72 to finish second. John Bessette posted a 73 to take third. Five players shot 74 to tie for 4th.
A Flight: New member Cullen Mumley led the charge of low scores in A Flight. He posted 73 and watched as David Parker came up with 74 grab second place. Mark Farrow and Paul Cope finished on 76 and tied for thrid. Beau Sundberg of the Hilton Head tour shot 77 to to finish fifth.
B Flight: Dan Seidenfaden shot 79 take a two stroke win in B Flight. Henry Holt of the NCF tour shot 81 for second. Mark Klenck, Bill DeTorres and Ray Rodriguez tied for thrid 83's.
C Flight: Jusn Restrepo was victorious with a fine round of 82. He finished seven strokes in front of Len Benedetti (Tampa) and Joe Porter (both shot 89). Michael Moore, 92 finished 4th.
D Flight: Ken Lawrence cruised to a seven stroke win with a 93. Amble Smoker (Upstate, SC)was second with 1007. Shaun Southward (103) took third place.
Senior Championship flight:. Tal Johnson sank a 50+ foot putt on the first playoff hole, just to stay alive and then took won a four way playoff. It was the largest playoff in Orlando senior tour history as he, John Ward, Bill Shufelt and Bill Foster all posted 74's. Shufelt took second on the scorecard match and Foster was third.
Senior A Flight: David Parker (74) won by two strokes over Bob Casemento (76) l
Senior B Flight:, Bill DeTorres (81) topped Ray Rodriquez who posted 83. Dan Gardner was third with 84.
