VOZZA, FRANK GO LOW AT OCN; FARROW, KENNEY & THOMPSON SHINE IN A, B & C FLISHTS
It was as hot as any day so far this year at Orange County National on Saturday. 97 Golfweek Amateur Tour players took aim at the Crooked Cat course in the 10th event of the 2011 season.
Christian Vozza Scorches OCN With 66 (file photo)
Championship Flight: In a most impressive collection of scores, Christian Vozza topped the field with a sizzling 66. His round included a closing 31 on his second nine. He posted 6 birdies and no bogeys. He needed every one as Chad Frank strung together five birdies in a row on his second nine to record a 32 after an opening 35. A bogey on #9, his last hole of the day, cost him a shot at a playoff despite posting eight birdies on the day.
Two more players also broke par as Paul Simpkins and Eric Baker each recorded 2-under par 70's to tie for 3rd. John Bessette's even par 72 took the final prize position in fifth.
Mark Farrow Tops A Flight
A Flight: Mark Farrow fired a steady round of 73 to top the field in A flight. It was two better than Dennis Cargo's 75. Stacy Banach and Will Young were next, tied on 76. Rounding out the top five was Tampa AGT member Alf Holden. He shot 77. Twelve players in A flight broke 80 at OCN.

B Flight: In one of the best rounds of the day, Jim Kenney shot 74 to win the B flight by four strokes over 3 players. Jim said is was one of those days where lots of putts were going in and "I hit the ball on the center of the club every time." In the tie for second were Andy Khokhar, Ben Hamby and Tristan Miceli.
Britt Thompson Has Good Day at OCN
C Flight: Britt Thompson, who plays a lot of golf at OCN, enjoyed a terrific day in C flight. He cruised to a five stroke win over Gordon Gibbs and Twe Hopkins. They posted 88's.
D Flight: The D flight welcomed a guest from the Netherlands--11 year old Edward de Groot. He made the most of his visit as he topped the D flight with a fine round of 87 (his older brother Florian shot 78 in the A flight). Brandon Prokop finished 2nd with 94 followed by Leslie Gray at 96.

Senior Flights: Steve Maddox continued his fine play with a solid one over par 73. It edged past Bill Foster by a stroke. Another stroke back on 75 was Rob Kempinski. Senior A flight went to Mike Lombardo with a 78 that was 3 better than second place Norm Nixon. Ben Hamby claimed the top spot in Senior B with 78.
