Bill Rhiley retruns from tour of duty in Scotland and wins A flight with an 82

The competition is heating up on the Golfweek Amateur Tour.  There is a real battle going on in all five flights. Most players are just a win or two away from claiming the top spot in each flight.

It is not to late for anyone considering joining the tour to get started and still have a shot at the points title.  Each flight winner gets 450 points for a single tournament win, and 900 for a Major win which is a two day event.  We still have one Major to play this season.  Points are awarded to every participant, and the amount of points depends on where you finish in the flight.

Congratulations to Craig Tomlinson for winning the 50/50 pot, and to David Wallace for winning the Odyssey Putter.

The Country Club at Lake City is our next event on 5/19/12

Champ Flight

Craig Tomlinson shot an impressive round of 74 to win the Champ Flight.  His four birdies came on #5, #7, #12, #17.  Greg Lyons was recently promoted to the Champ Flight and shot an 84 to take the second place spot.  Eric Walton finished third.

A Flight

Bill Rhiley wasted no time getting back to the winner's circle after returning from a tour of duty in Scotland.  While in Scotland he was able to get a few rounds in and it showed on Saturday.  Rhiley shot an 82 to edge out Steve Gordon by two shots.  Gordon shot an 84, and had birdies on #11 and #14.

B Flight

On a day when most players found it tough to score Andy Peterson shot one of the best rounds of the season by any player.  Peterson fired a 77 and had birdies on #6, #9, and #18.  David Wallace was playing his first tournament in B flight after winning several events in the C flight.  Wallace finished second with a 86.  Mike Damewood was third with an 89.

C Flight

Marvin Shavers became a two time winner on tour Saturday by shooting a round of 86.  Shavers had one birdie on #4.  Josh Rapplean started strong.  Rapplean birdied #1 and #3, but wasn't able to hold off Shavers and finished second.  Rob Smothers took the third spot, and is currently the points leader in C flight.

D Flight

Greg Herold is making a name for himself in the D flight.  He won his second event of the season and is just 125 points away from the points lead.  Herold shot 99.  Cat Turner was just three shots back with a 102.  The tour players wish Cat and his soon to be bride the best of luck.  Cat is getting married on the 12th of may.  Chad Friedmann was third firing a 107, and Raymond Guffey finished fourth.
