Deerwood Country Club Winner; Craig Tomlinson
A Hot Round on a Hot Day For One Craig Tomlinson
A Flight: Craig Tomlinson had heard about Deerwood Country Club being a great golfcourse, about how it used to host the Greater Jacksonville Open of the PGA Tour back in the seventies, and how it is still considered one of Jacksonville's premier private clubs. Living in Gainesville Florida, Craig had yet to play the prestigious course. Well, you wouldn't have known he had never played it based on what he did Saturday August 21st. 1st hole-birdy, second hole flop-saves par, #1 hdcp #3-birdy, hits in water on 4-saves par, # 5-birdy. The guy was unconscious. Anyway...Craig carded a 3 under par 33 on the front and in very hot conditions and enduring showers and a weather delay, cards a 2 over 38 on the back for a 71 to claim his sixth win out of eight events on tour. The guy can play some golf. Lets hope he can continue his winning ways in Hilton Head South Carolina come October. Great round, great season and keep it going Mr. Tomlinson. B Flight: Jason Singley has played on tour now for three years and has been very competative in the B flight. It wasn't until July this year at the World Golf Village's Slammer & Squire course did he get in to the winners column. Well...one month later at an equally challenging quality golfcourse; Deerwood Country Club, Mr. Singley found himself five shots down to amateur tour veteran Daren Rawlinson after fourteen holes. But there's a saying in golf; " never stop playing" and that is precisely what Jason did and Darren Rawlinsons five shot lead completely evaporated in the heat by the eighteenth hole. In a match play situation on the final hole, Jason Singley managed to make par on the 544yrd par five eighteenth, while Mr. Rawlinson carded a double bogey. The seasons final two events brought triumph to Jason Singley and all I can say is...it's about time. We saw this coming we just saw it coming sooner. Congratulations on some fine play and keep it going, we need you come October as there will be a contingent of players from Jacksonville making the trip to Hilton Head South carolina. Great finish to the 2010 season Jason. C Flight: Mike Damewood is playing some of his best golf right now and after Saturdays round at Deerwood Country Club I don't think he would argue the point. Damewood won with a stellar 6 over par 78 on the prestigious private club. Almost all players have a favorite course that he or she likes to play. Almost all players have a course that they score best on. Mike Damewood has to consider Deerwood Country club to be an exceptional course in that it probably meets both criteria here. The irony here is, Deerwood is a private club and Mr. Damewood is not a member and doesn't get the priviledge or benefit of playing this club maybe as often as he would like. I'm thinking he may be entertaining the idea of joining as he was heard saying: "I really like this course". Two rounds played at Deerwood have provided Mr. Damewood with some fond memories or atleast positive mojo. 2008 produced a 78 & 2010 another 78. Great playing Mike. A couple of those in Hilton Head would go a long way n the B flight. You can do it. D Flight: Repeat, reapeat, repeat, yes the last two events has brought three men back to back wins. The third member of this new club is Mike Hunter. Mike has now won three in a row, he won in June in Valdosta, won last month at Slammer & Squire and again this month, August at Deerwood Country Club. Each time he had heat to deal with both from the sun and twice from Mr. Ray Guffey. In July at Slammer & Squire, Mike and Ray battled to the end with one shot being the difference between the two players with Mr. Hunter coming out on top. This month, both Mike & Ray struggled outta the gate however, Mike settled in and played the next three holes in even par and managed his game well to never allow either Danny Kidd or Ray Guffey any room to breathe. The timing for this good play and the confidence that comes with winning, couldn't be more welcomed by a player than Mr. Hunter. Mike is a gracious competitor and a real fan of the game of golf. Mike also has alot of ability to play this game well, I like his chances come October in Hilton Head. Could it be back2back2back2back wins?
