Canyon West GC Champions

Canyon West Brings on the Wind, Again! Canyon West GC, Weatherford, Texas, April 19, 2009 - A recurring theme for the DFW AGT this season has been strong winds. The golf course at Canyon West was in good shape, but the prevailing winds took over shortly after the first drive was hit. With all of the challenges we saw 3 repeat winners and 1 new winner for the season. We had a good turnout and a great day of competition golf. The Tour also participated in the eGolf Earth Day initiative. The Tour players donated over 600 used golf balls for recycling, with Tim Hilton donating the most golf balls. For his efforts in donating the most golf balls, he earned a new pair of Bolle sunglasses. See the captions below for results of each flight. Champ Flight Bird Wins his 1st Tourney of the Season Cecil Bird won his first tournament in the young 2009 season. It was a close match between all of the competitors with only 1 stroke separating the field. Down the stretch of the final holes Bird found himself up going into the final 3 holes, but Bobby Breed made up ground on 16, 17, and 18. However, it was not enough. Bird and Breed were tied overall with an 89. We had to go to a scorecard playoff, and Bird won on the second hole for the win. On his way to a victory, he hit 50% of the fairways and 39% of the Greens in Regulation. Congratulations on your first win in 2009! "A" Flight Rockwell Starts his Day in an Unusual Fashion Terry Rockwell won the "A" Flight, but almost did not play. Rockwell regripped his clubs the night before, and forgot to put them back in his bag. When he arrived at the course he had his bag less his irons! After driving home and back, he just made it for the early morning tee times. Obviously his regripping proved to be what he needed. Rockwell shot the lowest round of the Tournament amongst all flights and cruised into a victory by 8 strokes. He continued his impressive driving accuracy by hitting 64% of the fairways with a leading season average of 71.43% of all fairways. Congratulations on another victory! "B" Flight Jenkins Wins Again Steve Jenkins wins his second tournament of the season, and has placed in the money in each tournament thus far. The flight was very competitive with only 7 strokes separating all players. Jenkins winning ways was lead by an impressive driving accuracy of 86%. He only missed 2 fairways all day, and he 44% of the Greens in Regulation. His ball striking allowed him to win by 3 strokes. The largest gap between all of the players within the flight. Congratulations on yet another victory! "C" Flight Diaz Does it Again Jerry Diaz does not know anything but 1st place. He has competed in two events and he won both of them. His victory was impressive, as well. He beat the field by 5 strokes. He has only played in 2 tournaments, and he is in a very tight points race with Anderson. Diaz trails Anderson by only 4 points on the year. When Diaz comes to play, he definitely comes to play. Everyone should be ready when they see his name in the field. Congratulations on another first place finish!
