DFW Golfweek Amateur Tour Opens the Season at The Tribute

The Colony, TX – The sun was shining; a brisk, gentle breeze was blowing; the course was in excellent shape; and the greens were lightening fast. This set the stage for the opening event on the DFW Tour.  The Tribute plays at 7,002 yards as a par 72.  It was designed as a tribute to the best 18 holes of golf in Scotland, and named a top 100 public golf course the last three years in a row.

In the Championship flight, Brett Ramsey and Kenneth Hull, both returning members, finished with an 82.  Ramsey was the eventual winner in the play-off.  Cecil Bird finished in third.

Jason Kalb, a Tour veteran, edged out Troy Biesel, a Tour rookie this year, by 1 stroke in the A flight.  JK shot an 81 on his way to his first victory this year, Troy shot an 82 for a second place finish.  Kevin McIntosh finished third with an 85.

The B flight showcased the lowest round of the day.  Kenneth Kilpatrick carded a blazing 78 on his way to the victory.  He did not blow everyone away; however, as Tour rookie Cheyenne Bauman was hot on his heels with an 80.  Chris Reynolds finished third with an 88.

Paul Gerber, third year member of the DFW Tour, finished with a 3 shot victory over rookie member John Vandevoort.  Paul shot a 94 and John shot a 97. Rookie member Jeff Hodge took third place finishing out the top three in the C flight.

In the D flight, two returning veterans to the DFW Tour took first and second place honors.  David Davis shot a 96 for first and Ron Brabham shot a 101 for second.

Twenty-nine players competed in the DFW’s first event this season.  That is the largest opening field in the Tour’s short history.  The next event on the schedule is Texas Starr in Euless, TX on March 27.  We expect an even larger group to compete.
